Biography :
Mara is originally from the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She started
experimenting with her first camera at age 13 and has continued
studying the medium ever since. Mara earned her BFA in
Communication Arts and Design (photography emphasis) from
Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999.
After college, Mara has continued to take photographs on her
travels to the west coast from Alaska to Baja California, as well as
Europe, Central and South America. While at home on the Shore,
she experimented with the art of batik and ceramics for several
years.
Previously Mara was employed as an ESL teacher and official
photographer for a family literacy program. In her spare moments,
she worked as freelance photographer for the Eastern Shore Post
and took wedding photographs for friends.
Mara is currently back in Richmond, VA working as a part-time
photographer and full-time mother to her 1 year old son.
